Update #2.
Due to the city extended stay at home policy and the closure of Parks until June 30, our earliest estimation of when our season can commence is mid July.
EDCL MANAGEMENT UPDATE
2020 has been an unusual year in many respects, and it appears that everyday is a ?new normal?. The world as we have known it has changed and every sector of businesses have to respond to the changes in unprecedented fashion. The EDCL is not immune to the impact of Covid-19 and as such must also take all necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of its teams and membership during this pandemic. There is still much uncertainty regarding when the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto will open parks and playing fields for team sport activities.
Against this backdrop, the EDCL management, in thoughtful consultation with its teams, had to make the very difficult decision to cancel the entire 2020 cricket season. As you are aware, the EDCL season runs from mid-May to September. While the City of Toronto announced the opening of public parks on May 23, ?individuals are not permitted to play team sports, such as soccer or baseball, even on fields intended for this purpose unless they are members of the same household.? The Management of EDCL will be arranging meetings with the general membership of EDCL to facilitate further consultation during the remainder of 2020 with a view to enhancing the image and structure of the league.
